Edel Alonso, after a night of celebrating and monitoring the election results throughout the night, found herself still awake when the sun came up “refreshing and refreshing” the election results website. “I kept refreshing and refreshing the LAVote website,” she said, noting it was a tight race competing against longtime College of the Canyons trustee Bruce Fortine. “I was behind Bruce at the beginning of the night but once I edged ahead, the margin kept getting a little wider each time,” she said. Rarely does a new candidate for public office emerge that possesses the experience, expertise and overall aptitude to step in and capably serve the community right out of the gate. It is with complete confidence and great personal enthusiasm that I endorse Dr. Edel Alonso for the COC Board of Trustees Area 2 seat in the Nov. 8 election. As a current member of the board, I speak with confidence in Edel’s demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge of the college. I had the pleasure of knowing Edel when she was a counselor and professor at COC for 16 years and served as the elected president of the faculty Academic Senate. Edel demonstrated her ability to lead as she guided the faculty in its legislated duty to advise the board on [...]
